Caring For Your Bunny

GARFIELD27

When you first get your bunny home don’t over handle him/her let them settle into their new hutch for the first week give them their food and always make sure they have fresh water available at all times also they must have grass hay everyday to help with their digestive system.

FEEDING

I give my bunnies some fruit and veggies every second day once they are over 12 weeks of age always start out with tiny little pieces when you fist give it to them so they can get use to it gradually. I never give them cabbage as it can cause bloat and lettuce can cause diarrhea and potato peelings are deadly to rabbits.

Your bunny is fed on our mix of barastoc rabbit pellets, oaten chaff also grass hay you can buy all these products from petstock. We mix together 40 scoops of oaten chaff to 8 scoops of barastoc rabbit pellets, you can break it down to smaller amounts for one or two bunnies.

We feed our babies 1 measuring cup of mix twice a day if there is some left we cut it back a little, if there is none left then we add a bit more. We also give them two hand fulls of grass hay a day if we find they are not eating that much hay in a day we cut it back a little or ad to it if they eat more.

When you buy a bunny from me I will supply you with a small bag of food and hay for the transition of your new bunny always keep your bunny on this food for a few days then if you decide to change the food please do it very slowly in conjunction with the food that I have given you as any abrupt changing of food can cause diarrhea, always start new food off with just a small pinch into the existing food and then a little bit more each time until the change over has been made.

SUMMER-WINTER

Rabbits do not handle the heat very well so when it gets to around 27 degrees put a large frozen water bottle in with them as they love to lay against it and give them some cold cucumber, watermelon and carrot to help keep them hydrated you can also bring them inside if you want.. You may have to change over frozen water bottles through out the day so keep a few of them in the freezer.. In winter time put extra hay in their hutch as it helps keep them warm and cosy.

If they are outside always have fly screen covered all over their cage to stop mosquitoes getting in to them as they carry the bad calicivirus and myxomatosis viruses that are deadly to rabbits, their is a vaccine you can get for calicivirus but not for myxomatosis.

PERSONAL CARE

Clip their nails once every two weeks if needed and a brush once a week mite treat them every six weeks and worm them every three months.

Don’t forget your bunny gets bored just like we do sometimes so give them some playtime out of their hutch in a safe area away from any predators I am sure they will love it and give them some toys to keep them busy but most of all they will love your company.

Give them lots of love they are truly a great little pet to have around.

Kind Regards.
